The African Red from Grounded Pleasures is one of the most pure and sumptuous chocolate experiences you can find. It is sourced from the best cocoa growing regions of West Africa. It exhibits all the hallmarks of African grown
Forastero cocoa beans and a hint of
Trinitario cocoa beans, with delightful high fruity notes.
These beans have been processed with the upmost care from tree to cup. African Red is made using most of the cocoa bean, thus retaining most of the cocoa liquor which is usually reserved for hard chocolates.
The quality cocoa beans together with the minimum of processing, means it has very high levels of anti-oxidants and flavonoids. These are the great 'health giving' properties of fine chocolate.

Good cocoa doesn't just taste of chocolateSome may find it surprising but good cocoa doesn’t taste just of chocolate. Good cocoa is complex (like good wine & coffee) and the mouth should resonate with many different and changing sensations such as spice, fruit, malt, sweet smoke etc and textures. All this should end with a delightful long and pleasant, echoing aftertaste.
Cocoa terroirThese complexities are derived from the patch of earth where they are grown and enhanced by careful initial processing, The local environment imparts all sorts of characteristics onto the finished cocoa. As with coffee, there are renowned small regions that produce exceptional coffee styles, it is similar for cocoa.
Minimal processingThe cocoas are processed with utmost care so as to retain their flavour and texture. It is common in cocoa milling that cocoa liquor is siphoned off for hard chocolates. This is not the case with Grounded Pleasures Drinking Chocolate. The cocoas are minimally processed to maximise flavour and health-giving antioxidants and flavonoids.
Tasting notes"An intense dark chocolate experience, deep and powerful, with delightful hints of plum, dried cherry, and sun-dried muscatels. It finishes off with an amazing textural resonance on the tongue and in the mouth that echoes delightfully for an age."
